In 2006 Google purchased Urchin, known at the time as the best web analytics package available. After Google purchased Urchin, they changed it's name to Google Analytics and made it free to everyone. Yep, totally free.

You can use Google Analytics to track all of your visitors, see how they found your website, and see what they do and where they go while they are visiting. If your visitors followed a link to your site, you will know which one. If your visitors came to you from a search engine, you will know which one, and you will know what keywords they used.

Google Analytics will also tell you everything you need to know about how visitors behave on your site, so you can focus your marketing resources and site design to deliver more conversions, and a better return on your investment

It will even track PPC visitors, not only from Google but from other PPC engines like Yahoo Search Marketing (Overture). It can be integrated directly into your Google AdWords account if desired.
