XML Site Map Feeds

The old days of search engine submissions are long gone. No search engine will rank a page based on a submission, because search engines want to find pages by following links from other pages that are already in the search engine index. But making sure that the search engines know about all of your pages is still a good idea, if done correctly. All major search engines now support XML site maps feeds.

Here is a great article by Danny Sullivan written at the time of introduction of Google’s SiteMaps feed program (now called Google Webmaster Tools). Since that time, Yahoo and MSN have adopted the same standard, so a single XML feed works for all three major search engines.

To get started, check out Google WebMaster Tools.
